【摘要】：中國古代都城史包括歷朝歷代作為首都的都城史和作為副首都的陪都都城史。在解釋陪都一詞之前,首先要說說與之相對應的首都、國都的含義。國都是一個國家或政權執(zhí)掌和行使最高權力的地方,通常也是一個國家或者政權的政治、經濟、軍事和文化中心。在中國古代社會,都城的稱謂多達50多種,如京城、京師、京都、帝都、帝宅、皂都、京畿、中國、首善,等等。首都的含義具備三要點,即：首都以皇帝所居、眾大尊崇、人口匯聚。那么,還有沒有除都城以外也具有以上三要點的城市呢?如果皇帝們因某種需要常常也會到另一個大城市視察、逗留甚至辦公,而這個城市也具有某些相應的設置,那這個城市該怎么稱呼呢?此外,類似的城市在歷史上經常出現嗎?答案是：在中國古代,這樣的城市史經常出現的,它的名稱叫陪都。中國古代,除建立國都作為政治中心之外,許多朝代還因特殊需要而設立陪都,陪都不是一種個別性的存在,而是一種具有客觀規(guī)律性和普遍意義的現象。所謂陪都,它是一國的統(tǒng)治者在正式的京城之外,因為某些需要而設置的都城,為首都之外另設的輔助性都城,以加強中央集權統(tǒng)治的一種政治性制度。陪都有時又稱行都、留都、別都等。本文研究的就是陪都稱謂之一——行都的類型和功能。行都或稱行在、行在所、行闕。指在正式都城之外另外為阜帝暫駐施政的臨時性都城。如宋南渡后的杭州、明成祖即位初期的順天府、清代的承德等。趙宋王朝南渡后,以杭州為行都,希望日后能夠恢復河北,還都汴京。明成祖即位時,也以順天府為行在,而以應天府為都城,仍稱南京,直至英宗正統(tǒng)元年才廢行在之名,正式稱為北京。清代,行都承德又稱行在,名“熱河行在”。本文共分三部分,第一部分緒論介紹行都的概念和范疇以及行都和相關名詞的研究現狀、論文內容與現實意義、論文創(chuàng)新點與不足之處；第二部分是行都的分類及其功能,將行都分成軍事型行都、臨時首都型行都、休閑型行都,軍事型行都包括吳國行都武昌、南宋行都建康,臨時首都型行都包括南宋行都臨安、明朝行都北京、唐朝諸行都,休閑型行都清代行都承德,進而詳細分析每種類型行都的具體功能,包括政治功能、軍事功能、文化功能等；最后一部分是論文研究的基本結論,即將全篇進行總結性收尾。
