從目的論角度比較研究戲劇《推銷員之死》的兩個(gè)中譯本

戲劇是一種具有二元性的獨(dú)特藝術(shù)形式,它既可以在舞臺(tái)上為觀眾帶來(lái)鮮活的視聽(tīng)享受,也可以像小說(shuō)和詩(shī)歌一樣作為文學(xué)作品供讀者欣賞。然而,長(zhǎng)期以來(lái),戲劇翻譯并未得到學(xué)術(shù)界的足夠重視。國(guó)內(nèi)外關(guān)于戲劇翻譯研究的專著和論文也極為有限。戲劇的二元性使譯者面臨一個(gè)兩難的困境:究竟是要突出戲劇的可讀性,還是要保證其可表演性?此外,如何評(píng)價(jià)戲劇疑問(wèn)也是一個(gè)棘手的問(wèn)題。 國(guó)內(nèi)外對(duì)戲劇翻譯的研究起止于三十年前,“可表演性”與“可讀性”之爭(zhēng)一直貫穿其中,較著名且有代表性的當(dāng)屬英國(guó)理論家蘇珊·巴斯奈特的理論。巴斯奈特在20世紀(jì)八十年代中期否定了與自己七十年代所提的“可表演性”觀點(diǎn),認(rèn)為實(shí)現(xiàn)“可讀性”應(yīng)該是戲劇翻譯者的第一要?jiǎng)?wù)。為了說(shuō)明及協(xié)調(diào)這兩個(gè)看似矛盾的觀點(diǎn),本文擬從功能角度出發(fā)考察這一矛盾,以目的論作為研究的理論基礎(chǔ),詳盡對(duì)比分析《推銷員之死》兩個(gè)中文版本,其中一個(gè)版本由英若誠(chéng)先生翻譯,另一個(gè)版本由陳良廷先生翻譯。 由德國(guó)功能派翻譯理論發(fā)展而來(lái)的目的論指出,翻譯是有明確目的的跨文化交際活動(dòng),翻譯目的是決定翻譯行為的首要因素,翻譯的過(guò)程受到各種因素的綜合制約。目的論為解決戲劇翻譯困境提供了嶄新的視角,并...
